BBC Children in Need Youth Cooking Project

BBC Children in Need pitched a content idea through an open commissioning round with BBC Wales to deliver a series of films made by Young People from the projects here in Wales to be produced for the Cymru Fyw (Welsh Language) Digital Platforms and they won a commission!!!!

Dim Popty Ping (which means No Microwave in Welsh!) is a project to get young people sharing basic cookery skills. Children in Need asked some of their Welsh grantees (including Maerdy Youth) to use smartphones, iPads and DSLR cameras to create videos of themselves preparing a simple, healthy (ish) meal, and have a laugh at the same time! They also offered basic training in filming and storytelling as part of the project.

As we know, many young people across the UK face challenges when it comes to the difficult transition into adulthood whether that is living independently or cooking for the first time. These films, created by young people from Children in Need projects who are facing some of these challenges, aim to inspire other young people to have a go themselves.

The idea of the project is that young people will build on the films and have a go themselves using #DimPoptyPing and @BBCCiN. This is a project that every young person can take part in – whether in a CIN funded project or not – its about sharing skills and ideas not about sharing the ‘disadvantage’.

Please share Maerdy Youth’s project film (link below) on your Social Media sites using #DimPoptyPing and @BBCCiN
