Community & Business Services

As well as our children’s day nursery, youth services, social activities and courses, Canolfan Maerdy offers a range of business and community support services provided by the organisation itself as well as through partners.  These include:

COMMUNITY SERVICES

SUPERMARKET SURPLUS FREE FOOD DISTRIBUTION SCHEME

Our Food Hub redistributes free food which is provided to us as surplus stock from local Tesco, Lidl and Co-op stores.  The food is usually near to or at the end of their ‘sell by’ or ‘use by’ date (but not always) for people in the community to collect each week day (ie Monday to Friday) between 9.30am and 4.30pm.  The Food Hub also runs a new project ‘Feed People Not Landfill’, which cooks food for the community from the food hub and runs cookery classes to help the local community learn how to cook easy, nutritious meals from the free food.  The project will also establish a community gardening and community composting scheme.

UPPER AMMAN VALLEY COMMUNITY TRANSPORT

Canolfan Maerdy works with D.A.N.S.A. and other partners to provide subsidised transport in and for the local community.  The transport can be used for any purpose.  For more information and to book transport, please contact Sacha, the Community Transport Development Co-ordinator on 07938 719 638 or email her communitycm@gmail.com.  The scheme is also always looking for volunteer drivers in order to help expand the service and ensure transport is available when requested.
