Job Title:                    Part-time Youth Worker – Maerdy Youth Forum

Salary:                        £9.50 per hour

Contract:                    Initially one year – 10 hours per week (flexible)

Maerdy Youth Forum is managed by Canolfan Maerdy and seeks to engage the disengaged, raise their ambitions and aspirations, facilitate and celebrate achievement, promote respect, responsibility and care for their community. The aim is support young people to become effective citizens through appropriate activities and their involvement in decision-making within the organisation and the communities in which they live. Our Maerdy Youth team is hard working, collaborative and passionate about ‘making a difference’ in a respectful way to the lives of young people, their families and the local community in the area. About Canolfan Maerdy

Canolfan Maerdy is a respected and established charity working with local authorities and other partners to provide services and projects that meet local needs, providing support for all age groups and abilities in the community. Our focus is on empowering local people through provision of family support services and developmental opportunities that will improve lives and engage them in enhancing the community and building the future. We operate within the rural communities of the Upper Amman, Upper Swansea and Twrch valleys straddling the Neath Port Talbot County Borough and Carmarthenshire County Council boundaries. The area consists of a series of village communities, which remain strongly Welsh speaking and are characterised by a strong coal mining and farming heritage.

The organization was established in December 2008 as a Company Limited by Guarantee. A social enterprise with Charitable Status, it is community owned, family oriented and provides adult education, childcare, intermediate employment opportunities, and community facilities to support individual wellbeing and the regeneration of the area.

Our services comprise:

  • Youth forum for young people aged 11 – 25 years
  • High quality, registered childcare for 0-11 years
  • Community café
  • Training/adult learning
  • Social activities for all age groups
  • Room hire

Conditions

We offer good conditions and these are regularly reviewed by the Board of Trustees. Please note that all posts are subject to a 3 month probationary period and an enhanced DBS Check.
